Antique Cypress
A
rich-toned beautifully grained softwood.
Cypress has been of historical importance
to this country since the Colonial period.
Just like the longleaf heart pine, cypress
was over harvested. Old growth cypress
is now rare and the young, newly harvested
trees of today do not compare in density,
strength, and natural beauty.
Color can range from a rich, reddish tan to
a light chocolate, with a very fine and unique
grain pattern. Old growth cypress has incredibly
tight growth rings and is excellent for any
interior or exterior project. Cypress lumber's
unique "rot resistance" and durability make it
especially useful for outdoor use. Because it is
insect resistant, in warmer climates it is the
construction material of choice as it requires
less maintenance, and does not warp as easily
in weather as other alternative lumbers.
